Every bottle of South African wine that is sold contributes to the continued employment of a quarter of a million people in the wine industry, and to the livelihood of their estimated one and a half million dependants.
Because of South Africa’s troubled history, the wine industry has a special awareness of the need for labour to be treated fairly, and with dignity. The country has very strict labour laws in place which address inter alia, minimum wages, protect against discrimination and prevent the use of child labour.
A major international trade journal with a global readership has rated Wines of South Africa (WOSA) one of the world’s most influential beverage organisations in building public awareness of the environment.
